Charleroi: the PS and the Engagés extend their contract for 6 years

After having reaffirmed the victory of the PS with an increase in the number of votes and percentage of votes (+ 2.5%) which was not enough to bring it a 27th seat, Paul Magnette said he “both listened to the signal from the polls and chose the project most in line with that of the PS.”By going from 4 to 6 elected officials, “the Engagés progressed better than the MR and DéFI who also won two (10 against 8). As for the PTB, it has rather calmed down” according to him, ignoring an increase of 1.8%.

“MR and PTB have not always been constructive. And they are paying the price today”

The three PS leaders first met their majority partner of 18 years, to note a proximity of programs with the Engaged. It was together that Thomas Dermine and Julie Patte went to meet, with real sincerity they say, the other groups of the next municipal council, ignoring interpersonal relations and attacks during the campaign: “beyond the slogans, convergences have appeared with the MR, on mobility, the attractiveness of the city” Dermine explained. “On the other hand, it stalled on housing and education where we are defending a very different project.” Same outcome with the PTB: “we pointed out to the head of the list Pauline Boninsegna that certain demands, on the creation of new swimming pools for example, were already the subject of concrete actions by our majority since infrastructures are being reconstructed in Marchienne and Montignies-sur -Sambre. But other demands were unrealistic, or outside municipal jurisdiction, such as free public transport.”

Julie Patte underlines the extent of the results of the last mandate, during which the two political partners (C +/Les Engagés and Ecolo) always demonstrated loyalty. “On the other hand, MR and PTB have not always been constructive. And they are paying the price today”according to the ff mayor.

PS-Engaged in meeting stakeholders in local life to establish a Strategic Plan

The next two weeks will be devoted to meetings with stakeholders in local life: police, justice, firefighters, trade union organizations, associative operators. This consultation will serve as a basis for the construction of the transversal strategic plan 2024-2030.

The distribution of scabinal skills and the casting of the college will come later. Logically, the executive should have 9 members of the PS for 2 of the Engagés. Thomas Dermine, Julie Patte, Philippe Van Cau, Babette Jandrain are sure to be there. We are counting on Eric Goffart and Tanguy Luambua for the Engagés.

The future majority will have 32 seats out of 51 (Editor’s note: 26 for the PS and 6 for the Engagés). A number equivalent to that with which the current tripartite completed the mandate after the departure of Anne-Sophie Deffense, and before the arrival of two new recruits at Les Engagés.
