The 3rd edition of the Summer Challenge reveals the new generation of Moroccan startups

The 3rd edition of the Summer Challenge (OSC), organized in partnership with Ernest & Young (EY), Nokia and Amazon Web Services (AWS), revealed its big winners during the closing ceremony held this October 15, 2024 at the headquarters of Orange Maroc.

An unmissable competition that brings together the most brilliant minds from the Kingdom’s Orange Digital Centers (ODC), OSC 2024 gave the opportunity to 24 young students, from more than ten Moroccan universities, to develop during the 3 summer months within the Orange Digital Centers in Rabat and Agadir, technological solutions around an essential theme “Tech4Impact: Entrepreneurship at the heart of change”.

The closing ceremony was an opportunity for the selected candidates to present the unique assets of their respective projects in front of an attentive and numerous audience. The audience was invited to discover the genesis of the projects presented, each candidate keen to convince in order to win their votes.

Indeed, as in each edition, the vote of the public present was decisive, accounting for 40% of the overall score of each project (the Orange Digital Center experts having previously assigned their scores counting for the remaining 60%).

At the end of the vote, the ranking therefore placed the Awale team in first position followed by the Egran, Mirrwear and Odac teams ranked respectively in the second, third and fourth place winners.

Furthermore, 16 countries from the Orange Digital Centers network in Africa and the Middle East participated in this edition of the Orange Summer Challenge, namely: Morocco, Guinea, Tunisia, Senegal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Egypt, Madagascar, Liberia, Botswana, Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau.

After this national phase, the Orange Summer Challenge now crosses borders for its international stage. National finalists will have the unique opportunity to present their innovative projects in December in front of an international audience, and compete for the prestigious title of grand winner of the Orange Summer Challenge 2024.

Much more than a simple competition, the Orange Summer Challenge constitutes a real talent accelerator, a catalyst for innovation and a vector for positive change. As an operator committed to the development of entrepreneurship and innovation in the Kingdom, Orange Morocco is proud to support the emergence of these new talents and thus contribute to a digital ecosystem that is as inclusive as it is sustainable.

The competing projects:

• ODAC: A medical bracelet connected to a mobile application capable of constantly monitoring the vital parameters of patients in hospitals and detecting heart and diabetic attacks (hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia) in advance.

• Egran: A drone solution using AI to detect insect infestations in crops and provide tailored treatment recommendations in the form of reports via a platform

• MirrWear: A virtual fashion assistant for a unique shopping experience. A Virtual Wardrobe Assistant that allows users to try on clothes virtually in real time via a smart mirror for a unique shopping experience.

• Awale: A communication aid for people with speech disabilities using technology that transforms their voice into text and audio.
