Long conflict resolved: the FIQ reaches an agreement with the government

The Quebec Interprofessional Health Federation (FIQ) and the government have both accepted the conciliator’s recommendations, both parties affirmed on their social networks and in a press release.

“Our members have decided to accept this recommendation, although it does not address all of their concerns. The FIQ will continue its fight for better working conditions and safe care, while remaining determined to defend the stability of teams, which is essential to the quality of care,” declared Julie Bouchard, president of the Interprofessional Health Federation. of Quebec (FIQ), by press release.

Following a referendum vote held on October 15, 16 and 17, the members of the FIQ accepted the conciliator’s recommendation by 66.3%. The participation rate was 75%.

For her part, the President of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, affirmed that this agreement made it possible to achieve mobility objectives, while reassuring nurses.

«Quebecers will thus be able to benefit, thanks to increased flexibility in the agreement, from greater availability of professionals to provide adequate care when they need it: both on the floors where it is necessary and during unfavorable work shifts (evening/night/weekend) and critical periods (summer/holidays),” she said in a press release.

“The public network thus becomes more attractive for staff from private agencies who wish to return, not to mention that members of the FIQ will now be able to participate in the flying team,” she added.

For its part, the FIQ affirmed that it would ensure that this new employment contract was deployed as quickly as possible.

“The struggle of healthcare professionals has not only exposed the government’s intransigence, but also demonstrated that it is on the wrong track by demanding ever more from those who support the network at arm’s length. The time is now for unity,” insisted the FIQ.

“It is becoming essential that the government listens to those who are at the heart of the health and social services network. Many issues persist, even after the adoption of an employment contract. We consider that a profound change in values will be necessary to restore the network and attract healthcare professionals again,” added Ms.me Bouchard.
