Marrakech Airport: ONDA reassures after heavy rains

By The Economist | 10/14/2024 – 5:51 p.m. | Share

Heavy rains hit Marrakech and its surroundings on Sunday October 13. Within fifteen minutes, the city received torrential rains of around 25 mm, causing multiple floods at various strategic points in the city. These torrential rains, exceeding the maximum capacity of the rainwater drainage systems, caused damage to some pipes at Marrakech-Menara airport, causing more or less heavy infiltration in certain areas of the terminal, indicates the ONDA. Airport infrastructure and operations were affected without major impact on activity, specifies ONDA. However, some arriving flights had to be diverted due to bad weather conditions.

As soon as the alerts were launched by the national meteorology department, ONDA set up a crisis unit which mobilized the teams and deployed the necessary measures. The Office also ensures that the airport’s airport and aeronautical facilities are operational and that the flow of air traffic is operating “normally” for both departing and arriving flights.
