they went to vote at the same time, but not in the same office this Sunday morning

All observers will have their eyes on Mons this Sunday. Georges-Louis Bouchez, leader of the liberal party, intends to take the mayoral sash from Nicolas Martin. The head of the Mons en Mieux list hopes that the very good results of the MR in the regional elections will finally reflect on the municipal results. But the fight is difficult. Mons has been in the hands of the socialists for more than 70 years. And last June, in the town of Mons itself, the PS did more than resist the MR. Nicolas Martin had done better than his rival. The Mons municipal election of October 13 therefore appears to be the symbol of the antagonism between the PS and the MR.

Still, the die is cast for Nicolas Martin and Georges-Louis Bouchez. They both went to vote at the same time this Sunday morning. The meeting was normally scheduled for 11:30 a.m. They were not far from each other, but it was not the same polling station.

Nicolas Martin voted at the Hyon municipal school. The mayor of Mons came accompanied by his dad. Before going to polling station 65, he went to greet customers at the neighboring café, the Le Charron tavern.

For his part, Georges-Louis Bouchez went to the Trieu school. He arrived late, around 12:15 p.m., with his family, with his partner Lucie Demaret and their son Charles-Louis. By putting his ballot in the box intended for the provincial vote, Georges-Louis Bouchez explained that it was perhaps the last time that we would vote for the provinces. Leaving the office, he clarified that the PS vote was “a habitual vote” in the region. “I don’t know if we will be able to reverse this trend in one go.” A family meal was planned afterwards, then a departure for Brussels to manage the Brussels coalitions.
