The woman accused of seriously injuring a 10-year-old child this week in Longueuil will spend the Thanksgiving long weekend behind bars. Stéphanie Borel allegedly doused a boy in her neighborhood with boiling water.

“You are facing serious charges,” summarized the judge on Friday afternoon during the accused’s appearance at the Longueuil courthouse.
The 46-year-old from Longueuil faces one count of aggravated assault. During the brief hearing, the Crown prosecutor opposed the accused’s release. Result: the woman remains detained until further notice. His release hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday.
A publication ban now protects the identity of the injured child.
The case made headlines this week: a 10-year-old boy scalded by a woman on his way home from school. The boy suffered severe burns to his upper body. According to the police, the woman attacked him simply because he walked on her property.
The case took place on October 2 on the grounds of a residence with several housing units near the intersection between Chemin de Chambly and Boulevard Curé-Poirier Est, in Longueuil.
Stéphanie Borel was first arrested, then released under various conditions with a view to appearing later. His identity had therefore not been revealed at that time. His release, without immediate criminal charges, then raised some questions.
But “new elements” of investigation recently obtained led to the filing of the present charges. Stéphanie Borel was arrested Friday by the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL).
According to the SPAL, “everything indicates that this is an isolated act, without the involvement of other suspects”.
The accused has no criminal record. However, she was accused of assault in 2021, but she was acquitted in 2022. According to the computerized docket, she then had to commit to respecting an “810” type order for one year. This provision of the Criminal Code allows commitments to be imposed on a person.
