One dead in Brussels Central, serious disruptions to the rail network

EDue to a personal accident that occurred on Friday afternoon, two of the six tracks at Brussels Central station are impassable. “Traffic is disrupted between Brussels-North and Brussels-Midi stations,” SNCB indicated on the social network X.

The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on track 5 of the Central station, said SNCB spokesperson Dimitri Temmerman. As a result, tracks 5 and 6 are temporarily out of use.

One death has been reported, according to the federal police. The exact circumstances of the facts are not yet clear.

The damaged train linked Antwerp to Charleroi. Brussels Central station is located on the route of the capital’s north-south connection, used by many of the country’s trains. The accident caused serious disruption to the rail network, with delays reaching 45 minutes and some trains canceled.
