the high school student placed under judicial supervision

The student suspected of having slapped a teacher at her high school in on Monday, October 7, was placed under judicial supervision until the hearing, scheduled for next December, CNEWS learned from the prosecutor’s office.

The doors are currently still closed. A few days after the attack suffered by a teacher, slapped by a student to whom she had asked to remove her veil, the teachers of the Sévigné high school in Tourcoing are currently meeting to decide on the extension of the suspension of classes.

Following this incident, the 18-year-old girl was arrested outside her school. Placed in police custody on Monday, this was extended this Tuesday. The high school student was presented in court this Wednesday early in the afternoon. She was placed under judicial supervision until the hearing, scheduled for December 11.

Also, the student is prohibited from appearing near the Sevigné high school and from coming into contact with the victim.

A complaint filed

Asked to react on Tuesday following an intervention by Gérald Darmanin, MP and former mayor of Tourcoing, Anne Genetet, Minister of National Education, indicated that she had spoken with the teacher.

“She had only pointed out the obvious: no veil, no ostensible religious sign at school,” declared the minister, condemning this attack.

Anne Genetet subsequently announced that “a complaint had been filed and a precautionary measure taken to prohibit the student from entering the school until his disciplinary council”. “I will never accept attacks on the physical integrity of a professor. To threaten a professor is to threaten the Republic,” she later said.

A speech considered insufficient for Eric Ciotti, guest of CNEWS this Wednesday. “These are words we have heard many times. I am waiting for action,” considered the president of the UDR, demanding “criminal sanctions.” “This Republic, which received a slap in the face, must not strain the other day,” he demanded.
