alert for a very stormy night

As for the weather, we should expect a particularly rough night between Wednesday and Thursday in Switzerland, particularly on the crests of the Jura, but also on the Plateau. The forecast winds, between 60 and 80 km/h, up to more than 100 km/h in the mountains, are the consequence of the arrival on the continent of the remains of tropical hurricane Kirk.

According to observations from the MeteoNews agency: “On October 7, Kirk was a first category hurricane southwest of the Azores, over increasingly cold waters. The storm’s tropical characteristics were later lost due to the lack of energy from the ocean surface. The depression, now extratropical, passed north of the Azores and headed towards northern Spain and the west coast of .

It is therefore this Wednesday that the continent is affected by this depression, which will pass from the Atlantic to the Baltic Sea. This morning, a gust of 205 km/ha was recorded at Mirador del Cable in the Spanish “Picos de Europa” national park.

These violent winds, accompanied by relatively significant disturbances depending on the region, will therefore await Switzerland from the evening of Wednesday until Thursday morning. In mountain, “the storm will rage with occasional hurricane gusts,” writes MeteoNews. They could reach 120 km/h, particularly in the Pays d’Enhaut, the Bernese Alps or the Gotthard massif.
