It was 3:30 a.m. this Sunday October 6 when a man was shot rue Saint-Michel, in downtown . In serious condition, firefighters rushed him to Pontchaillou hospital. For now, the police were unable to identify him because he did not have his identity papers with him. According to the mayor of Rennes, Nathalie Appéré, this assassination attempt is “linked to the turf war between drug traffickers in Gros-Chêne”. An investigation is open by the organized crime department.

“This escalation of violence is particularly worrying”

In a press release, the mayor of Rennes, Nathalie Appéré, states: “This escalation of violence is particularly worrying”. She also mentions being linked to the Public Prosecutor and the prefectural and police authorities. “While waiting for the investigative work to produce results, I have again requested a reinforced police presence on the ground”she said, referring to rue Saint-Michel. By increasing police numbers, Nathalie Appéré hopes to reduce insecurity:“Public security in our city, linked to the determined fight against drug trafficking, must be an absolute priority for the new Prefect.”

This attack echoes what happened at the beginning of the week, this Monday, September 30, when a 37-year-old man was shot at Place du Gros Chênein front of the Aldi store, in the Maurepas district of Rennes. On this same square which is a well-known deal point, two young men were killed by bullets last year.
