Birame Souleye Diop breaks the silence…

Birame Soulèye Diop was, this Saturday, October 6, in Thiès as part of the “Setal sunu reew” clean-up days initiated by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

Questioned about the cessation of activities of the 44 agents in his ministry, the Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines maintained that it was a financial problem.

« My predecessors signed contracts with people who, to pay them, used a fund called ‘advance fund’ to pay these agents when this fund was intended for something else. For the 298 people who were recruited, their salaries in 2023 were estimated at 1.052 billion FCFA. Which means that we exceeded the imprest fund and to pay the rest of the 234 million, they went to draw from another fund“ , Birame Souleye Diop reiterated via E-media.

Not without emphasizing that “ these contracts were not inspected by the labor inspectorate and after the current audit, for those which have no use, the ministry will be obliged to part with them…. For the remaining 254, the ministry did not have their salaries for the month of October, November and December. I finally wrote a letter to the Ministry of Finance to request an extension of 200 million to be able to pay the remaining 254. But is this normal?«
