(Keystone-ATS) The Israeli army issued a new order to evacuate areas of southern Beirut overnight from Wednesday to Thursday. This type of warning heralds probable new strikes against the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah.

“You are near Hezbollah-related facilities and interests, against which the Israeli army will act in the near future,” she said in a statement. She designated buildings located in the Shiite sectors of Haret Hreik, Burj al-Barajneh and Hadath Gharb.

An Israeli raid against a Hezbollah rescue center in the heart of Beirut left at least six people dead during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, said the Lebanese Ministry of Health and a source close to the Lebanese Islamist movement.

The raid left “two people dead instantly” and “the number of dead rose to six after four injured people succumbed to their injuries,” the ministry said. Seven other injured people were transferred to hospitals.

Targeted southern suburbs

This is the second Israeli strike targeting the heart of the Lebanese capital since the start of the conflict between the pro-Iranian Islamist movement and Israel on October 8, 2023.

It targeted the capital more centrally this time, after an Israeli strike which killed three members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a left-wing secular Palestinian organization on Monday in the Cola neighborhood.

The strike on the Bachoura neighborhood comes after a series of bombings targeting the southern suburbs on Wednesday evening, the third series of Israeli raids targeting this Hezbollah stronghold outside Beirut in less than 24 hours and regularly targeted for around ten days.
