“Biblical devastation” in North Carolina

After crossing Florida and Georgia, the hurricane Helene downgraded to a tropical storm caused flooding and mudslides, the extent of which became clearer this Sunday in North Carolina. Buncombe County, home to tourist town Asheville (photo), was particularly hard hit. At least 30 of the 36 people lost in North Carolina as a result of the storm lived in this region in the eastern part of the state. In total, Helene and the tropical storm left at least 89 dead.

“We are seeing biblical devastation throughout the county,” said Ryan Cole, emergency manager for Buncombe County. “This is the largest natural disaster any of us has ever seen. »

More than 400 roads were closed across the state due to the storm. Homes have been destroyed, towns have been cut off from the world, water networks are out of service and hundreds of thousands of people are without electricity.

In a public statement, the Trump team criticized Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for their so-called inaction in the face of the situation in the states hit by Helene. “Where are the “leaders” of the country? Kamala is in San Francisco fundraising with her radical left donors and Biden is – once again – at the beach,” reads the statement which notes the sympathy expressed by Donald Trump this Sunday in Pennsylvania for citizens of Florida, Georgia and North Carolina, among other states affected by the hurricane.

Trump announced he will travel to Georgia on Monday.
