Lubbock business news includes Little Sprig Farm, West Texas Ag

Hello A-J readers!

I usually talk about the main business news that happened over the week in this column, and I will, but this one will be a little different. You probably noticed an increase in our reporting on agriculture in the business section over the past few months. Those articles, on topics from locally grown mushrooms to dining to goats and more, are now part of our new agriculture project.

The project, West Texas Ag, is an online collection of all things local agriculture. That includes Wolfforth’s E3 mushrooms, Idalou’s market, Plainview goats, Lubbock wine and so much more. It will continue to grow and cover an array of ag topics, including farm/ranch features and impact stores. I hope you take the time to check it out and see all the team’s work in telling the stories of the businesses that make our region a hub.

The newest part of the ongoing West Texas Ag project features a GOAT of a farm – Little Sprig Farm near Plainview. Daniel Stanfield told us about how he and his wife, Olivia, turned a need for better skincare and food into a mainstay in the Wolfforth Farmers’ Market.

“We always did it on a personal scale, but then we decided we could make a living and help people in the community get things that we really enjoy ourselves,” Stanfield said while petting one of the Nubian dairy goats named Viola.

Another unique part of the business is the “herdshare” program, where people can buy shares of the goats and receive milk and other benefits.

This week also saw the return of Durango’s Mexican restaurant on Sept. 4 at 4102 34th St.

Next week, I’m excited to learn more about all the awesome things the Lubbock libraries offer. We are also getting closer to the technical start of fall, which means the return of our ‘where to find fall drinks’ and the ‘fall drink review’ is coming soon.

As always, thank you for reading and supporting the A-J.
