T&T continues its expansion in Quebec with the opening of a second store. The Asian supermarket chain will set up shop in Quartier DIX30 in the fall of 2024. The arrival of the brand managed by Loblaw marks the beginning of a certain transformation of the commercial offer for this destination where users of the Metropolitan express network (REM).

“The vision we have is to respond even more [aux besoins] REM users. It’s a huge catch for the DIX30,” admits Nicholas Kassis, head of rental at Quartier DIX30.
And the play on words to qualify the arrival of this Asian supermarket is not risky. The brand, which opened its first store in Quebec in December 2022 in the borough of Saint-Laurent, offers a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, sushi, noodles, bakery products and even pharmacy. But it is also known for its many fish and seafood tanks.
The opening of the Brossard store – with an area of 5,000 square meters (approximately 54,000 square feet) – in the former location of Déco Découverte symbolizes in a way the transformations to come due to the new presence of REM users. who use the station located on the site, confirms Mr. Kassis. It will also meet the needs of the Asian community, which is very important in this sector of the South Shore. This is why the location was an “obvious choice” for T&T.
It is sure that there will be a DIX30 2.0. We will have to adapt our commercial offer with these new users who will clearly not “use” the DIX30 in the same way as consumers who come to shop in stores on weekends.
Nicholas Kassis, rental manager of Quartier DIX30
For the moment, however, it is impossible to have more details on these upcoming changes. One thing is certain, the arrival of T&T, with its 15,000 products – including 300 private label – will be added to the increasingly varied grocery offering at DIX30 with the presence of Adonis, Avril and Walmart.
On the long term
Asked about possible changes in the commercial offer and in the development of the site due to the presence of an REM station, Jean-Philippe Meloche, professor at the School of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture from the University of Montreal, believes that we could witness a transformation… which however will not happen overnight.
It will transform. But do not expect a major transformation in the next two or three years, but rather over 15 or 20 years. I think we’re going to see residential, local shops, green spaces appear. But it’s all going to happen slowly.
Jean-Philippe Meloche, from the School of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture
“It has occupied our thoughts a lot for the past 12 months, underlines for his part Nicholas Kassis. We do a lot of brainstorming internally. Quartier DIX30, which is very, very motorist friendly, brings its share of challenges. There is a lot of traffic. It is more difficult for pedestrians. We are thinking [à des solutions] to improve the site for users who will be arriving on foot. »
Jean-Philippe Meloche still believes that the presence of a grocery store between the REM station and users’ homes can encourage more than one to shop there before returning home.
Recruitment and new openings
Moreover, the first customers of the T&T in Brossard will not be able to go shopping there before the fall of 2024. However, the company is already in a recruitment campaign to hire 250 employees.
Buoyed by the success of her store in the borough of Saint-Laurent – with an area of 6,500 square meters, the largest in the country – Tina Lee, CEO of T&T, does not hide her intention to open others in Quebec.
“The Saint-Laurent store exceeded our expectations. We had underestimated how much our offer and our shopping experience would appeal to a wide audience. I think this is due to the culture and joie de vivre of Quebecers, as well as their openness to different culinary experiences. Elements that seem well anchored in their daily lives, even more, dare I say, than in the rest of the country. This is precisely what draws consumers to our store, and it gives us the confidence to open another one. »
