Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), indicated that during the period from January 16 to 22, 2025, the dirham appreciated by 0.6% against the US dollar and depreciated by 0.5% against screw the euro.

In its weekly bulletin, BAM specifies that during this period, no auction operations were carried out on the foreign exchange market.

As of January 17, 2025, official reserve assets stood at 368.4 billion dirhams (billion dirhams), an increase of 0.1% from one week to the next and 4% year-on-year.

During this week, the volume of BAM interventions amounted to 141.2 billion dirhams on a daily average. It is divided between 7-day advances for an amount of MAD 57.4 billion, as well as longer-term repos and guaranteed loans for respective amounts of MAD 49.6 billion and MAD 34.1 billion.

On the interbank market, the average daily trading volume stood at MAD 2.4 billion and the interbank rate stood at 2.50% on average.

During the call for tenders on January 22 (value date January 23), the Bank injected an amount of MAD 55.1 billion in the form of 7-day advances.

On the stock market, the MASI fell by 1.9%, bringing its performance since the start of the year to 6.8%. This weekly change notably reflects declines of 4% for the “Agrifood” index, 2.6% for that of “Buildings and Construction Materials” and 1.8% for that of “Banks”.

As for the weekly trading volume, it increased from one week to the next from 2.6 billion dirhams to almost 2.9 billion dirhams, almost all of which was carried out on the central stock market.
