Sunday, which marks the expiration of the 60-day ceasefire concluded between Israel and Hezbollah, was marked by an escalation of tensions in southern Lebanon, with clashes between the Israeli army and rioters Lebanese. 22 people were killed by IDF fire, and more than a hundred were injured, reports Lebanon’s Ministry of Health.
Hezbollah welcomed the movement of Lebanese populations who are trying to return to their villages, two months after the ceasefire. In an exalted statement, the terrorist movement celebrated the resilience of the Lebanese people, calling it a “glorious day” and affirming that “resistance” is the most powerful weapon.
The Lebanese army, initially reluctant, first warned the populations of potential dangers, in particular the presence of mines and suspicious objects left by the IDF. Despite these warnings, residents broke through military roadblocks, lifting fences and crossing obstacles.
Faced with this popular determination, the Lebanese army gradually changed its discourse, moving from prohibition to supporting the populations, and denouncing Israeli violations and their refusal to withdraw.
-Hezbollah called for national unity and urged the international community to force Israel to withdraw from the country. For its part, the IDF expresses its determination to remain in the southern region until the Lebanese army has completed its deployment in areas formerly occupied by Hezbollah, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement.
