The Minister of Public Accounts, Amélie de Montchalin, highlighted the heavy financial losses caused by the censorship of Michel Barnier’s government. According to his statements on BFMTV, this situation results in a loss of “100 million euros per day” for the state coffers.

De Montchalin specified that since January 1, in the absence of the 2025 budget, has already lost “6 billion euros in revenue”. This sum includes both uncollected income and unrealized savings. The minister stressed the seriousness of the censorship, warning that it could lead to increased taxes.

She said the budget passed by the Senate does not meet the criteria for a “compromise budget,” and only succeeds in “reducing the deficit.” » “It will not be the budget of the right, the budget of the left, the budget of the center, but the budget of the country,” she added.

These assertions come ahead of the meeting of a joint committee, scheduled for Thursday at the National Assembly, to decide on the final text of the budget to be submitted to the deliberation of deputies.

Since the censorship of the Barnier government following its use of article 49. 3 to pass the 2025 social security budget, France has not yet adopted a new budget. Therefore, the 2024 budget continues to be applied by default. This situation makes it essential the adoption of a special law proposed by the Executive to ensure the normal functioning of public finances.
