Low craze for the seasonal flu vaccination campaign (medical sources)

According to medical sources, this disinterest is partly attributed to the influence of discourse emanating from non-specialists, questioning the effectiveness and safety of vaccines. However, the health authorities have made substantial efforts to guarantee the availability of doses, with 150,000 vaccines allocated to the public sector and around 250,000 for the private sector. Citizens can be vaccinated free of charge in public establishments or buy the vaccine, at the cost of around 126 dirhams, for administration in private clinics or at The Pasteur Institute.

A reinforced strategy to protect groups at risk

The vaccination campaign mainly targets vulnerable groups, such as pregnant women, children under the age of five, the elderly, as well as patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity and diseases cardiovascular. It is part of a global approach including preventive measures, such as wearing the mask in enclosed spaces, respect for barriers and hand hygiene.

The vaccine, formulated to provide protection against four viral strains identified by theWorld Health Organization (WHO), represents an effective solution to reduce the risk of serious complications, in particular severe respiratory infections that can affect the heart, lungs and higher respiratory tract. These complications, often fatal in immunocompromised people or suffering from serious illnesses such as cancer, can also lead to costly hospitalizations, especially in resuscitation services.

A negative impact for public health

The low rate of vaccination poses a major challenge for public health. Not only does it increase the risk of propagation of viruses, but it also generates a significant waste of resources, especially financial and logistical. Unused vaccines, the storage time of which is limited, require costly destruction procedures that meet environmental and safety standards.

Finally, seasonal flu remains a global health threat, causing up to 90 % of deaths in high -risk people, mainly the elderly. In Morocco, it is the first cause of medical consultations linked to acute respiratory diseases. With a viral activity culminating between September and April, vaccination remains the safest and most effective means of protecting populations and limiting the devastating effects of this infection. Despite the challenges, the health authorities continue to raise awareness of citizens about the importance of vaccination, hoping to reverse this trend and strengthen the fight against seasonal flu.
