For the moment, no one knows how to explain it. Four passengers and two crew members of a United Airlines Boeing were injured during the night from Friday to Saturday, January 25, 2025. The flight, which left Lagos, Nigeria, should reach Washington, explains CNN.

The plane, a Boeing 787, was carrying 245 passengers. He experienced a “technical problem” which led to “an unexpected movement”, noted the American company. According to the latest data available from Flight Radar 24, the aircraft suddenly lost altitude, an hour and a half after takeoff. The plane was forced to turn around to land where it had left, in Lagos.

An investigation is underway

Rare images, because on X, a video of a passenger broadcast the interior of the plane. We see meal trays and other objects scattered on the cabin floor. We can imagine the violence of the tremors.

So far, no serious injuries have been reported. The six injured hospitalized were able to return to the hotels in which the passengers were accommodated. Waiting, of course, for the airline to put them back on other flights.

Selon United Airlines, the incident is not linked to turbulence. While the investigation is only just beginning, the company says it is “working with the aeronautical authorities of the United States and Nigeria to understand the cause”.

This is not the first time that a Boeing aircraft has been questioned. On Saturday June 22, 2024, a Korean Air 737 Max flying from Seoul to Taichung (Taiwan) suffered a sudden fall of 27,000 feet (around 8,000 m) in 15 minutes. The aircraft also turned around to return to land urgently at the departure airport.
