Brussels training: “A government without a Dutch-speaking majority is not an option”

“This is not a serious proposal for the challenges Brussels faces. Without a majority on the Dutch-speaking side, such a government would remain in business as usual. The only thing that changes is the names of the ministers, but the powers of this government would remain limited In other words, it would not have the power to really reform Brussels, to make the city more liveable and financially healthy. And this does not help the social organizations and associations which. are now in difficulty because of these little political games”, continued Ms. Van den Brandt, in a press release.

After consulting the Dutch-speaking parties, Ms Van den Brandt also expressed her “deep concern” about a possible community conflict.

“Brussels was built on community balances, just as Belgium was built on these balances. To modify these balances is to embark on a path paved with numerous uncertainties. And above all: it means not offering the slightest prospect to the current formation of the government Let us now see together how we can form a government as soon as possible,” she insisted.
