Representatives of independence movements from various French overseas territories and Corsica are gathering in New Caledonia this Thursday and Friday. They are participating in the fundamental congress of the ‘International Decolonization Front’, as reported Thursday by a Caledonian official cited by Mediapart.

Aloiso Saiko, of the Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front (FLNKS), declared on the sidelines of a press conference: “We welcome within our walls the brothers of the International Decolonization Front who met a few months ago in Azerbaijan and who also aspire to be freed from the colonial yoke.”

The “Congress of the Last French Colonies” is held in Nouméa with representatives from six French and two Dutch territories. Concerning , it includes , Guadeloupe, Guyana, New Caledonia, Corsica and French Polynesia. On the Dutch side, Bonaire and the southern part of the island of Saint Martin also participate.

Francis Carole, a separatist from the island of Martinique, clarified in a video shared on social networks that this gathering aims to “decide on the name, the political charter and the statutes of the International Decolonization Front”.

Last July, during a congress in Azerbaijan, French independence representatives agreed to launch a common “liberation front”. The goal is to coordinate joint actions, explained Francis Carole, leader of the Party for the Liberation of Martinique (Palima), who stressed: “We cannot remain recreational fish in the colonial fishbowl.”
