Democracy is progressing in quantity but regressing in quality. In 2024, never before have so many people participated in elections around the world. At the same time, we observe a deterioration in the quality of the democratic process – setbacks in terms of representation and rights, rejection of results by the loser or irregularities in the counting of votes, according to the report The Global State of Democracy 2024 published by International IDEA, an intergovernmental organization based in Sweden.
We find defenders of democracy in different circles: activists, political, academic or cultural. We also find them among investors. They can then turn to sustainable investment (also called responsible investment), of which there are three main variants.
