The area around Place Fontainas, in the center of the City of Brussels, was cordoned off on Sunday evening after the discovery of a suspicious package, local Brussels police said.

Police confirm a suspicious package discovered in Brussels, near Place Fontainas, in the center of the capital. This package was discovered shortly before 6:00 p.m. on board a Stib bus. “We immediately sealed off the surrounding area and specialized services are examining the package”explained the police. “The area will remain closed” as long as operations continue.
The area around Place Fontainas, in the very center of the City of Brussels, has been accessible again on Sunday evening since 6:30 p.m., Brussels police said. The area was cordoned off shortly before 6 p.m. after the discovery of a suspicious package on a bus. The package turned out to be harmless.

The trams and metros of the Brussels public transport company have always run, without stopping at Anneessens. Service has since resumed normally.
