It will be cold in Washington on Monday, January 20, when Donald Trump takes the oath of office around noon US time. Very cold. The temperature is expected to be -12 degrees due to freezing winds. The future president, more accustomed to the mild Florida winter, therefore decided to take refuge inside the Capitol, in the rotunda, where a platform was hastily erected on Friday. Only a few hundred hand-picked personalities will be able to be present. This promises difficult choices, while many donors were worried about not yet having received their VIP access to attend the outdoor swearing-in.
“It is my obligation to protect people,” Donald Trump justified Friday in a message on his Truth Social network. “These will be dangerous conditions for the tens of thousands of police officers, the rescuers, the horses and the hundreds of thousands of my supporters,” he continued to explain this last minute change of program. Many of the Republican’s supporters had already arrived on Friday in sunny Washington with positive temperatures. They come from all over the United States, paying exorbitant prices for hotel rooms, to witness the historic return of their champion to the White House. According to the parliamentary committee which has been preparing the event for months, 220,000 tickets were distributed via elected representatives of Congress to attend the inauguration in front of the Capitol.
