Québec solidaire asks the Minister of the Status of Women, Martine Biron, to boycott Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony on behalf of victims of sexual assault.

The Legault government will send Martine Biron on Monday to the swearing-in ceremony of the 47th President of the United States in Washington. The Quebec Minister of International Relations, who is also responsible for the Status of Women, must participate in the reception offered by the Canadian ambassador to the United States on the occasion of inauguration day and must take part in a reception organized jointly by the Quebec Delegation in Washington and the Business Council of Canada.

For solidarity co-spokesperson Ruba Ghazal, this is a bad signal for women.

“The Minister of the Status of Women, Martine Biron, should boycott the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump, a recognized sexual assaulter. It would send a strong message to victims of sexual assault and to all women in Quebec: we do not pay tribute to a sexual attacker, no matter who he is,” she argued Friday, in a publication in the networks social.

QS nevertheless believes that Quebec must still be represented at this event in the context where Quebec’s interests are at risk due to tariff threats from the future occupant of the White House.
