Donald Trump: inauguration moved because of the polar cold

At exactly 12 noon on Monday US Eastern Time, the nuclear codes will change hands. Donald Trump will become the 47th president of the United States, succeeding Democrat Joe Biden.

He will take the oath under the dome of the Capitol. The ceremony usually takes place on the steps of the Congressional headquarters, but the freezing temperatures predicted Monday in Washington led to it being moved indoors – as for the second inauguration of President Ronald Reagan in 1985.

Donald Trump will join his supporters later, in a large hall in the American capital, where the ceremony will be broadcast live. The day will end with the traditional investiture balls.

The grandiose hall where the 45th and soon 47th president will take the oath of office is a temple of American political life, decorated with statues of great people and historical paintings. This is where the funeral chapels of deceased presidents are erected.

This is also where supporters of Donald Trump rushed in on January 6, 2021 to try to prevent the certification of Joe Biden’s victory, heated by a speech by their champion on a stolen election.

A little more than four years after these incredible scenes, in the same place, Donald Trump will place one hand on a Bible inherited from his mother and raise the other to swear to “protect and defend the Constitution”.
