Considering the negative temperatures announced for the night of Monday to Tuesday, the Department of Social Cohesion and Solidarity of the City of Geneva, in partnership with the Protection civiledecided to once again extend the Severe Cold Plan activated on Sunday January 12 until Tuesday January 21 in the morning.
The Severe Cold Plan was initially scheduled to end on the morning of January 16. In view of the negative temperatures forecast, it was extended for the first time until Monday January 20. Since Wednesday evening, January 15, the PCi has been in charge of welcoming beneficiaries in the additional PC shelter opened on January 12. Admissions are made through the Emergency accommodation center on the free number 0800 22 22 10 in order to allow as many people as possible to benefit from this additional possibility of emergency accommodation.
The capacity of the additional PC shelter, located in the Champel district, is 80 places, in addition to the 80 places in the Richemont PC shelter. Shelters are open from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 a.m.. In total, the emergency accommodation system, during periods of extreme cold, has 583 places.
Reinforced night tours
Night tours reinforced by the PCi are maintained. During these tours, the City Social Service meets people who are on the street, suggests that they join the shelter, brings them blankets and hot drinks and informs them of the existing systems. The Night Correspondent teams of the City of Geneva and the La Maraude Genève association are joining forces with this proximity work.
-Emergency accommodation center: a single number
People looking for shelter, network partners, as well as the public who are concerned about the situation of a person on the street, are asked to call the Emergency Shelter Center of the City of Geneva at free number 0800 22 22 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week, and from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. during the weekend. This telephone number serves as the gateway to all the places in the intermunicipal emergency accommodation system, whether they are managed by the City of Geneva or by associations. Please note that these hours have now been extended to best meet requests.

The Severe Cold Plan had already been activated between December 12 and 15, and from December 26 to 31, 2024.
