The Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire (PDCI, opposition) wants the government to set the farm gate price of cashew nuts at 500 CFA per kg for the 2025 marketing campaign.
During a press lunch, held this Thursday, January 16, 2025, the spokesperson for the PDCI, Bredoumy Soumaila declared that the party is “in solidarity with the grievance of producers for remuneration at 500 Fcfa per kilogram against 275 Fcfa/ kg in 2024.
For him, the promise of “60% of the CIF price is not respected” by the Ivorian government. Bredoumy Soumaila protested that, on certain African markets, a kg of cocoa is sold at around 6,500 CFA francs when the Ivorian producer only receives 1,800 CFA francs.
« It is not normal that our farmers cannot benefit from the improvement in cocoa on the international market for almost two years. », Regretted the spokesperson for the Pdci, Bredoumy Soumaila, during this meeting with the press.
The PDCI spokesperson, during his speech, echoed the desire of the party’s president, international banker Tidjane Thiam, to improve the lives of producers, whom he considers to be creators of wealth for the country.
He said that the Pdci, through its parliamentary group, has always worked to improve the remuneration of producers. In this context, he will mention the party’s fight for better remuneration for cash crops: cocoa, coffee, rubber and cashew nuts.
The Ivorian MP, Bredoumy Soumaila also denounced “ the failure of social housing » promised by the government. He assured that the PDCI, which is working to regain power, will come to find the solution once in power.
-Concerning the national political climate, Mr. Bredoumy noted President Tidjane Thiam’s call for the opposition to come together to address the presidential election of October 2025, namely to ” come together for freedom, democracy and take power ».
Regarding the presidential election, he expressed the wish of the PDCI that the electoral list be rid of “ any waste “, that there be a maximum number of people registered and that another revision of the electoral list be initiated ” immediately ».
On the life of the party, Bredoumy Soumaila announced, very soon, the holding of a Political Bureau followed by the party convention. He will emphasize that “ the Pdci convention will be wide open” before launching “all those who want to be a candidate, prepare yourself. »
The president of the PDCI, Tidjane Thiam, who made an appearance at this press lunch, expressed his best wishes to journalists and urged them to work for appeasement in this election year.
