The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced, this Tuesday, January 14, the postponement of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) initially scheduled for February 2025. The competition will now be held in August of the same year in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
According to a CAF statement, technical and infrastructure experts deemed additional time necessary to ensure that the facilities complied with the organization’s requirements. “CAF’s technical and infrastructure experts, some based in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, have required additional time to ensure that infrastructure and facilities are at the level needed to successfully host the CAF Championship. Africa of Nations”, specifies the text.
Despite this postponement, CAF welcomes the progress made in the three host countries, particularly in the construction and modernization of infrastructure. “Significant progress has been observed with the construction and renovation of stadiums, training grounds, hotels, hospitals and other facilities necessary for the organization of the tournament,” adds the body.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe thanked the leaders of the three countries for their efforts. “I would like to express my deep gratitude to President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for their leadership and commitment. I am impressed with the construction and renovation work underway. I am confident that all infrastructure will meet the standards required to organize a successful CHAN in August 2025,” he said.
