Madame Chantal, this teacher who had terrorized first-year students before being hired this fall in another school, could lose her teaching certificate.

The Minister of Education, Bernard Drainville, launched a committee of inquiry on Tuesday to rule on his fate, his office indicated in response to questions from the Journal.

The teacher would have reoffended this fall in another elementary school in Joliette, according to testimonies from parents collected last week by TVA Nouvelles.

This investigative committee may be triggered when information is likely to indicate that serious misconduct has been committed by a teacher in the exercise of his duties.

“The minister is very concerned and above all shocked by the events reported. School exists for children and under no circumstances can we accept situations like this. The safety and well-being of students must be everyone’s priority,” we read in a written response sent by his office.

The committee will have 15 days to decide on the relevance of suspending the teacher’s certificate during the investigation, which could last several months.

The process is the same as that which was triggered for the 11 teachers implicated in the investigation report on Bedford elementary school in Montreal this fall.

Hired at another school

In the spring of 2023, recordings of this teacher yelling at her first-year students in a school in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, broadcast by QUB radio, sparked outrage.

In the absence of an official complaint filed with the Ministry of Education, the minister could not, at that time, trigger this investigative committee himself, explains the cabinet.

The situation is different today, with the adoption of Law 47 last year which strengthens student protection measures.

TVA Nouvelles reported last week that Madame Chantal had managed to get hired at the start of the school year by another school service center, in a primary school in Joliette, as a teacher for six and seven year old children experiencing social and emotional limitations. .

However, according to the testimony of two mothers, his behavior did not really change.

For its part, the Samares school service center claimed not to be aware of the fact that this teacher was the same one who made the headlines for her screaming in a school in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac.

Law 47 now provides that teachers’ disciplinary files are transferred from one service center to another, but this measure is not yet in force.

This provision should be in place within a few weeks, according to Minister Drainville’s office.

Ms. Chantal has been absent from her teaching position at the Joliette school since December, the Samares service center indicated last week.
