An unknown sender, a non-compliant email address, an attachment with a questionable name: so many signals that should alert you when you receive an email. But more than 13,000 Vaud civil servants fell into the trap during a test conducted by the Canton at the beginning of November as part of an awareness campaign, reports “24 Heures”.
Some 29% of the 47,000 state employees (including medical staff and teaching staff) opened the email of a certain “[email protected]» then clicked on the attachment labeled “Plan_amelioration_processus_Urgent”. And no less than 5,000 people (11%) even entered a login and password. On the other hand, a quarter of users reported the suspicious email to IT services.
