American singer Beyoncé offered $2.5 million through her BeyGOOD foundation to support victims of the fires currently ravaging California. The financial assistance aims to support affected families, as well as churches and community centers mobilized to help them.
The fires hitting the Los Angeles region have already killed at least 24 people and caused significant material damage. More than 12,000 buildings, including four schools, were destroyed by the flames. Three other schools are in evacuated areas, but the majority of public schools in Los Angeles and surrounding areas will still reopen their doors on Monday.
In an Instagram post, Beyoncé’s foundation said: “Los Angeles, we are with you”. His donation is aimed in particular at families in the Altadena and Pasadena neighborhoods who have lost their homes, as well as local organizations which provide them with essential assistance.
A still unstable situation
Weather services warn that strong winds could worsen the situation in the coming days, making the work of firefighters who are tirelessly battling the flames even more difficult.
With these worrying weather conditions and already considerable damage, the support of personalities and private initiatives, such as that of Beyoncé, appears crucial to help the hardest hit communities recover.
