RS Berkane and FAR qualified for the quarter-finals of African competitions

RS Berkane obtained a draw against Desportivo Lunda-Sul of Angola (0-0), Sunday January 12, at the November 11 Stadium in Luanda, during the 5th day of group B of the African Confederation Cup football (CAF).

Finalist in the last edition of this competition, RS Berkane had already ensured its qualification for the quarter-finals on the 4th day, thanks to a victory against Stade Malien (1-0).

In the same group, South African club Stellenbosch also qualified for the quarter-finals by beating Stade Malien with a score of 2-0 at the Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria. For the 6th and final day of the group stage, RS Berkane will host Stellenbosch next Sunday, in a duel for first place in the group.

For its part, AS FAR validated its ticket for the quarter-finals of the African Champions League after a draw (1-1) against Raja de Casablanca, played on January 11 at the Stade d’Honneur in Meknes, as part of the 5th day of group B.

During the 6th and final day, the Militaires, leaders of group B with 9 points, will travel to South Africa to face Mamelodi Sundowns (8 points). A victory would allow AS FAR to finish at the top of its group. This match will also be decisive for Raja de Casablanca (5 points), who will have to beat AS Maniema at home to hope to qualify. Any other result will permanently eliminate Raja from the competition.

AS FAR and the Berkane Renaissance remain the only representatives of Moroccan football in African competitions, respectively in the Champions League and the CAF Cup. As a reminder, the winner of the Champions League participates in the prestigious FIFA Club World Cup.
