The Higher Institute of Dramatic and Cultural Animation (ISADAC) recently organized a master class on “Moroccan speaking arts: Melhoun as a model”, as part of a workshop which will be culminated by the presentation of a revisited version of the play “Al Harraz”.

This master class, supervised by the artist Moulay Abdelaziz Tahiri, aims to allow students to discover more about the art of Melhoun and its history and to edify them on the poem “Al Harraz”, adapted in the theater that the Institute is looking for to be revisited under the direction of professor and director Amine Nassour. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Tahiri recalled the origins and evolution of the art of melhoun in Morocco, from the first attempts until it became an art in its own right, returning to the circumstances of the writing of the poem. “Al Harraz”, which Moroccan playwrights, under the leadership of the late artist Tayeb Saddiqi, adapted into the theater.

In this sense, he called on the students of the Institute to do their best to revisit this play in a dignified manner and make it known to new generations in order to consecrate the role of theater in the preservation of the authentic heritage of the country. . For his part, director Amine Nassour stressed that this meeting is an opportunity to introduce students of the Institute to the art of melhoun through multiple approaches, lyrical and theatrical, noting that this art has been adapted in theater by numerous Moroccan playwrights, led by the late Tayeb Saddiqi in his masterpiece “Al Harraz”, which has marked the collective memory of Moroccans for years 1970.
