The Patriotic Salvation Movement, the party of President Mahamat Idriss Déby, in power, won 124 seats out of 188 in the legislative elections held on December 29, according to provisional results announced Saturday evening by the National Election Management Agency (ANGEL).
According to the same source, the participation rate was 51.56%, according to Ahmet Bartchiret, president of ANGE, speaking at a press conference on Saturday evening.
According to the same source, the Réveil party of former Prime Minister Albert Pahimi Padacké only obtained 12 seats.
Next comes the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) with 8 seats, followed by the National Union for Democracy and Renewal, with 7 seats.
The other political parties only obtained one seat at best.
-These elections were boycotted by the main opposition party, Les Transformateurs, of former Prime Minister Succès Masra, citing “results known in advance”.
The legislative elections took place on December 29, the same day as the provincial and municipal elections.
With these elections, Chad closes 3 years of transition, following the death of the former President, Idriss Déby Itno.
