Ruben Vargas continues his career in Spain. The 26-year-old Swiss international winger is leaving Bundesliga club Augsburg to join Sevilla FC, the Andalusian team announced. He will find Djibril Sow there.

This change of scenery, long desired by the main person concerned, was predictable. “I have already stressed several times that I feel ready to take a new step. After five and a half years at FC Augsburg, I would now like to take a new path in another league,” he explained.

This season, the Lucerne player, whose contract would have expired at the end of the season, has only made eight partial appearances in the league with Augsburg, due in particular to an ankle injury which put him on forced rest. Despite these recent mixed performances, the Bavarian leaders would nevertheless have happily extended their collaboration.

Before moving to Germany, Ruben Vargas played for his original club, FC Lucerne. According to the press release from Sevilla FC, currently 13th in La Liga, Vargas is committed until the summer of 2029. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose the terms of the contract.
