She was driving quietly at the wheel of her car this Sunday around 5:20 p.m. when the tragedy occurred. For reasons still unknown, a car coming in the opposite direction suddenly swerved in front of her, on Länggasse, in Krauchthal. Despite a final attempt to avoid the driver, he collided head-on with the driver’s car, who died at the scene. His identity has not yet been formally established.
As for the driver, he continued to swerve, colliding sideways with a motorhome, which was traveling in the same direction as him. But, unharmed, both were finally able to stop on the side of the road. The section of road concerned had to be cordoned off for several hours and a diversion was put in place by the firefighters.
In addition to the Berne Cantonal Police, the accident involved three ambulances, a Rega helicopter, specialists from the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the University of Berne, the Care Team of the Canton of Berne as well as professional firefighters from Protection and rescue Bern, the firefighters of Vechigen and those of Krauchthal. An investigation was opened by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to determine the exact course of the accident.
