Bp, the oil company which holds a 57% stake in the large Tortue Ahmeyim gas project, located between Mauritania and Senegal, announced that it has “started transporting gas from liquefied natural gas (LNG) wells to its floating production, storage and offloading (Fpso) vessel for the next stage of commissioning.

For Gordon Birrell, the company’s Executive Vice President of Production and Operations, this is a remarkable milestone for the project. “The first gas flow is a concrete example of responding to current global energy demand and reiterates our commitment to helping Mauritania and Senegal develop their natural resources,” he said in a press release reviewed by iGFM .

The Bp manager adds that the gas from phase 1 of Gta will be introduced into the Fpso which is approximately 40 kilometers offshore, to eliminate water, condensates and impurities. It will then be transferred via a pipeline to a floating liquefied natural gas (Flng) vessel located 10 kilometers offshore, to be cryogenically cooled, liquefied and stored before being transferred to LNG carriers for export.

Bp specifies that part of the gas will be intended to meet the growing energy demand of Senegal and Mauritania
