NHL: Zachary L’Heureux severely penalized for his dangerous gesture

Zachary L’Heureux hasn’t earned the sympathy of the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

The Nashville Predators forward was suspended three games for the dangerous gesture he made against Jared Spurgeon of the Minnesota Wild a few days ago.

L’Heureux had a hearing Thursday afternoon and the Department of Security released its decision a little later.

L’Heureux found himself in a fight for the puck in the corner of the boards. While trying to get to the puck before Spurgeon, L’Heureux placed his leg behind the Wild defender to tip him dangerously backwards.

L’Heureux received a match penalty on the sequence and the Wild scored a goal on the power play. Minnesota won the game 5-3.

A first-round pick of the Predators in 2021, L’Heureux is playing his first NHL campaign this season. He amassed four goals and five assists in 33 games.

He will be eligible to return to play on January 11, against the Washington Capitals.

The Predators are 30th overall in the NHL, with a record of 11-20-7. They will face the Vancouver Canucks on Friday.
