We know more about the profile of the author of the attack in New Orleans, which left 14 dead and around thirty injured on Wednesday. The American Federal Police (FBI) announced on Thursday, January 2, that this 42-year-old former American soldier had proclaimed in several videos his support for the Islamic State group and had also claimed to have joined the organization.

Five videos were posted on the Facebook account of car-ramming terrorist Shamsud-Din Jabbar the day before the attack, in which “he explains that he initially planned to attack his family and friends, but that he was worried that the newspaper headlines would not focus on 'the war between the faithful and the infidels'”, Christopher Raia, a senior FBI official, said at a news conference.

He also planted two homemade bombs in the city's French Quarter, where crowds were rushing to celebrate the New Year, he said, adding that he appeared to have acted alone. “We do not believe at this stage that other people were involved in this attack”specified the federal agency, adding that there is, moreover, no “irrefutable link” between this attack and the explosion the same day of a Tesla car in Las Vegas. The FBI, however, warned that the investigation was still in its preliminary stages.
