In a press release, “Maroc Environnement 2050” warns of the deterioration of air quality in the ocher city. Air pollution has reached an “unbearable” level, according to the association, which fears that road widening work will further worsen the situation by encouraging car traffic.
The movement pleads for a massive investment in public transport, currently considered “inefficient” and incapable of meeting the needs of a metropolis like Marrakech, specifying that efficient and environmentally friendly public transport would make it possible to reduce traffic jams and improve the quality of life of citizens.

The association also calls for the creation of cycle paths that are secure and entirely separated from car traffic. She denounces the current state of cycle paths, regularly invaded by cars, buses and taxis, which makes them dangerous for cyclists. It also recommends separating lanes dedicated to bicycles from those reserved for motorcycles, due to differences in speed and size.
The association insists on the need to adopt a global and sustainable vision of urban mobility, in order to make Marrakech a modern city, pleasant to live in and respectful of the environment.
