The two men, separated by a few miles, will finish the long crossing of the southern seas.
Yoann Richomme (Paprec Arkéa) was preparing to round Cape Horn at the head of the 10th Vendée Globe on Monday with some 8 nautical miles ahead of Charlie Dalin (Macif Santé Prévoyance), according to the 7:00 p.m. (GMT+1) tally.
With a speed of 21.7 knots over the last 24 hours, Richomme was a little slower than Dalin (22.37 knots) but the gap widened at the end of the day.
After having slowed the pace a little in the last few hours, Dalin, who is following a route a little further south than his rival, is 7.67 miles behind, compared to just over 2 miles at the 7:00 a.m. time.

Followed in 3rd position at 492 miles Sébastien Simon (Groupe Dubreuil) then in 4th position Thomas Ruyant (Vulnerable) at 1,444 miles.
While the fleet which left Les Sables d'Olonne on November 10 is in its 44th day of navigation, Richomme should cross Cape Horn during the night from Monday to Tuesday or Tuesday morning, according to the latest forecasts, before starting the ascent of the Atlantic.
In 2016-2017, during his record edition, Armel Le Cléac'h passed Cape Horn after 47 days and 32 minutes of racing.
