The Moroccan fuel distribution company, a subsidiary of the Akwa group, won the contract for the supply and delivery of standard and special fuel oil to the various ONEE sites, for an amount of 2.443 billion DH. During this call for tenders, Afriquia beat Atlas Sahara to win the contract.
Afriquia SMDC, led since last April by Khalid Mouchtaki, won the contract for the supply and delivery of standard and special fuel oil on December 5, 2024 from the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE). at the various ONEE sites.

Details of the contract and competing offers
With this contract worth 2.443 billion DH, which was the subject of a call for tenders, the emblematic subsidiary of Akwa Group, controlled by the Akhannouch family, is ahead of Atlas Sahara, a subsidiary of Derhem Holding. The latter, owned by the Derhem family, made an offer of 3.97 billion DH.
Based in Ain Sebaâ in Casablanca, Afriquia SMDC (Moroccan Fuel Distribution Company) specializes in the field of fuel distribution through a large network of service stations deployed in Morocco under the “Afriquia” brand. It has the largest network of service stations in Morocco (19% of the network of existing service stations according to the Competition Council).

The evolution of electricity production in Morocco
For ten years, ONEE has gradually replaced the production of electricity from fuel oil, considered costly, with other energy sources, mainly solar and wind.
Recently, during a speech in Parliament, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, announced that the installed capacity for the production of renewable electricity reached 5,300 megawatts, an increase of 7.3 % since the start of the current government mandate. It is also notable that, for the first time, wind power has surpassed hydropower in terms of electricity generation.
