The Royal Message addressed to the participants in the second edition of the National Conference on Advanced Regionalization underlines the particular interest given by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the success of the regional development project, as an essential lever of economic growth and integrated and sustainable human development, said Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit on Saturday in Tangier.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of these Conferences, organized under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, Mr. Laftit added that regional development requires the combined efforts of all stakeholders in order to guarantee citizens prosperity and a decent life.
The Royal Message, continued Mr. Laftit, emphasizes the need to meet the challenges that still stand on the path to the optimal implementation of the advanced regionalization project, in particular those linked to an effective application of the National charter for administrative deconcentration and the complete operationalization of the exercise by the regions of their full powers.
Among these challenges, he also cited the strengthening of participatory democracy at regional and local levels, the implementation of the constitutional principle relating to accountability in matters of territorial management, the promotion of the attractiveness of regions and the capacity of regions to develop financing mechanisms to cope with certain crises and adapt to changes imposed by the economic situation and future hazards.
Mr. Laftit also underlined that the participation of several actors in this event, including elected officials, parliamentarians, government officials, presidents of constitutional institutions, civil society actors as well as representatives of organizations international partners, enabled constructive and fruitful debates around themes relating to the challenges facing the advanced regionalization project.
These contributions also highlighted the opportunities offered by advanced regionalization as a platform for strengthening local governance, spatial justice and efficiency in resource management, and a collective work space providing the opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on the promotion of integrated development through the territorial implementation of public policies, noted the minister.
Organized under the theme “Advanced regionalization, between the challenges of today and tomorrow” by the Ministry of the Interior in partnership with the Association of Regions of Morocco, this two-day event constituted an important moment in the implementation, under the impetus of the High Royal Guidelines, of the advanced Regionalization project as a structural institutional reform and strategic choice for the consolidation of the territorial development process.
