The Gorée Sports Union, which is celebrating its centenary this year, affirms its ambitions to reconnect with its great past performances, underlined Augustin Senghor, president of the club.
President Senghor, who is also head of the Senegalese Football Federation, declared during a ceremony on the island of Gorée that: “The ambition of this club, of which we were the custodian through the transmission made by our elders, it is to continue to perpetuate performances and to remain the club that it is, a strong symbol of the phoenix always rising from its ashes. »
During this event marking the centenary of US Gorée, Augustin Senghor expressed the club's determination to keep its various sports sections active and alive, despite the challenges of the current situation.
He also highlighted the sporting heritage of Gorée, which has seen the birth of several champions, such as Amadou Gackou, Amadou Dia Ba, recognized as Senegal's only Olympic medalist, and the jumper Mansour Dia.
“Gorée is a great book open to the world, where the story is told in the past, in the present. But we think it will be told in the future,” said Mr. Senghor, expressing his vision for the future of the club.
US Gorée, considered the vice-dean of Senegalese clubs, was founded in 1921 and obtained its official status in 1933, shortly after the creation of Jeanne d'Arc de Dakar, the oldest club in Senegal.
