The Coordination of Catholic Students of Dakar (CECD) covering all Catholic Student Communities of public universities reacts following the information note (009815) dated December 20, 2024 and signed by the interim Rector, Professor Aminata Niang DIENE of the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar, announcing the continuation of courses until Tuesday, December 24 2024 at 6 p.m., Christmas Eve (Midnight Mass), which is an important time to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. The CECD speaks of a “lack of consideration observed towards Catholic students”, in a press release sent to the editorial staff of PressAfrik.

Catholic students express their disappointment and disapproval of the decision which “goes against human and spiritual values”. “As a community, we believe it is fundamental to respect these moments of contemplation and celebration which nourish the soul and spirit of every Christian. Hoping for discussions as soon as possible, we request, with respect and firmness, the cancellation of the decree in question, failing which we will authorize students who want to celebrate Christmas with family to do so as soon as possible,” the note indicates. .

The coordination says “to note with regret that despite the steps taken with the authorities of the Saint-Dominique university parish, the university authority continues to marginalize our Christian community”.
