If the Gran Risa is often defined as one of the most beautiful giant slopes on the planet, the Alta Badia route can also be extremely difficult. On a very changeable and bumpy surface, the athletes experienced many difficulties on Sunday morning in the first round.
In these conditions, it was the best giants in the world who were able to do well. Starting with Filip Zubcic, who took full advantage of his bib 2 to set the best time. The Croatian is followed by the Norwegian Alexander Steen-Olsen (at 0'05) and by Marco Odermatt (at 0'19). Twenty-four hours after his downhill victory in Val Gardena, the Nidwalden is also looking for a new giant success, having unlocked his giant counter in Val d'Isère. Norway is still represented in the top-5 by Henrik Kristoffersen (at 0'29) and Timon Haugan (at 0'44).
There will be many contenders for the podium and victory in the second round. Especially since the track should deteriorate quickly, which will make good climbs possible.
Starting with bib 1, Loïc Meillard (10th at 1'01), for his part, is one of those runners who didn't really find the key in the first round. Thomas Tumler (at 1'46), Fadri Janutin (at 1'58) and Gino Cviensel (at 1'91) will also be present on the second route.
Luca Aerni (29th at 2'57) narrowly qualified, unlike Justin Murisier (33rd at 2'80).
