Metz – Raclette, “number 1 Christmas trend”
Difficult morning, for the last Sunday before Christmas, on the famous market in the Sainte-Thérèse district of Metz. Sluggish sales overall. Except in the cheese section, with a national trend of choosing raclette at Christmas.
Only one trader reported good sales this Sunday on the Sainte-Thérèse market: the “Michel farm” and its Haute-Savoie cheeses. “Raclette has become the number 1 trend for the French at Christmas,” explains a seller. This has an impact on purchases, we have been selling trays all morning. » But also beautiful slices of Beaufort, this Alpine cheese which can measure up to 75 centimeters in diameter (PDO criterion): it always has an effect on the Christmas table!
The wind does damage
For the rest, what a calamity, with the weather this morning! However, the Sainte-Thérèse market in Metz is usually busy. But unlike the stalls stormed by lovers of good food, this December 22 sent a dull image. In the opinion of the majority of exhibitors interviewed, “no pre-Christmas rush” observed.
However, there were black puddings, baskets of exotic fruits, delicatessen products… “On orders, customers responded, explains a butcher. But as far as spontaneous visitors are concerned, it was not a big crowd. » The strong winds of the morning even caused some damage: stand blown away, windows of a stand broken on the ground, gravy boat even smashed… hard!
