White gold made its return to the Jura Arc during the night from Thursday to Friday, transforming the Jura ridges into a winter setting. According to MétéoNews, snow disturbances are expected until Monday afternoon, with accumulations expected to vary depending on altitude. Between Saturday evening and Sunday, the snow limit will fluctuate between 1300 and 1500 meters, before dropping to 500-600 meters on Sunday evening thanks to the arrival of polar air. Despite this, the snow should not hold in the plains due to too high temperatures.
According to Nicolas Borgognon, meteorologist at Meteonews, “the forecast accumulations look significant at altitude”. In the Neuchâtel mountains, up to 10 centimeters of snow are expected from 1000 meters. On the crests of the Jura, forecasts indicate between 30 and 40 centimeters. The Alps, meanwhile, could be covered in a meter of white gold. “These conditions are particularly awaited by winter sports enthusiasts,” he explains.
However, forecasts indicate that this snowfall will not continue until December 24th or 25th. As in recent years, “it is unlikely that the region will experience a white Christmas, a phenomenon that has become rare in the Jura region,” explains Nicolas Borgognon. A calmer period should set in from Monday afternoon, with dry but cold weather. “Above 1200 to 1300 meters, conditions should be ideal for enjoying the sun and freshly fallen snow,” underlines the expert.
